Fate RPG Chronicles « Thread Started on Jul 11, 2004, 12:06am »
Well, we haven't quite finished the first adventure but I guess we sort of ended on a semi-cliffhanger note so I'm going to go ahead anyway and post what we've been up to as promised. Will not get to it all tonight, but should finish up tomorrow sometime.
As a general note, people outside the game should generally refrain from figuring out problems or anything publically if they see an apparent answer that the players haven't figured out yet.
For those unfamiliar with what I'm writing on, myself, Banquo, sssssz, VeX and CaptainOverkill (Or Dark Six 1-5 to make it simpler) are playing an RPG of Fate. I'm GMing it and the rest are players. The setting of it is another grail war about 10 years after Fate's. Which makes it war number six I believe. It has been generally placed around the local high school as the daily setting, much like Fate was.
Everyone basically takes the roll of a master and then creates a servant which acts as an npc kind of tethered to them. The servants can act on their own and become full npcs if they're cut loose by use of all controls, master death, or something like Medea Caster's Rulebreaker, but while bound the player basically can strongly "suggest" actions and they are usually followed unless theres a very good reason for them not to follow them.
To quickly run down the player cast (using basically their own words with some editing for the present format, plus an added servant description):
VeX - The History teacher, Ricardo Fuller.... a rather tall (for japanese standards) black haired person, rumors have it that he lives comfortably and teaches as he enjoys it.
His servant is a man he calls "Greg." He is an extremely tall man with brown hair and a fairly lengthy beard. He acts a bit like something of a faith healer and enjoys liquor and chasing women.
sssssz - Kasawagi Reiji, a completely plain boy. He is quite sociable, but acts really weird few times. He's neither tall or short... acting like totally different when he meets new person. Seems like he does it on purpose.
His servant hasn't been too visible initially but is also quite tall, though not so much as Ricardo's servant. He is more muscled though by a fair amount. Information suggests he is much more prone to social activities and fun than his master.
CaptainOverkill - Makoto Tanaka, age 18 and a senior. His grades suck, because he spends most of his time at work when he's not at school, since he has to have the money. A little above average height, and his shoulders are stooped and his expression tired and world-weary.
His servant is a man Makoto calls "Shuen." He is fairly large as well, though a bit smaller than Kasawagi's servant. Relatively antisocial but a reliable partner. Tends to use physical force to solve such problems as have arisen so far.
Banquo - Alex Patchel. A tall brown haired foreign man who works at a noodle shop. An unusual insignia with a large Hand holding a sword is seen on his faded tan leather jacket. The faded letters BPRD are barely visible.
He has the only female servant of the PCs, a woman named "Jeanne." She has brown hair with a pale complexion and seems to be a bit more upstanding of a citizen then some of the others.
That basically covers the introductory information. After this mostly going to discuss things as they happen in the plot. Though I may hold some aspects of adventures off for a little bit if its not something everyone knows about yet in the game.
Coming Soon:
Day 01: Session I - A Day at School: Wherein No Affection Points are Obtained with any Girls Session II - The Battle for the Holy Grail Begins: Time to Chase Bunnies and Ignore Store Closing Times!
Sarah H. Asdis - A 17 year old girl of indeterminate European origin that transferred into high school as an exchange student about a week earlier. She has violet colored hair, though of a shade much lighter than Sakura's, and is very pale. Sarah is not very tall, only a little bit over five foot, and fairly slim. She tends to be withdrawn, though she seems to enjoy chemistry.
The Out-of-Character (after this OOC) Player Verdict is that she's probably a master, though what drives her and who her servant is remains unknown.
Edalene Selendria - An 18 year old girl from the British Isles that transferred into the high school about six months ago. Despite her somewhat short time and her foreign status she has already managed to become the student council president. Though how many votes came from her exoctic-for-Japan blonde hair and good looks and how many came from fear for the voter's life if she found out they didn't vote for her lies open to question. She has a fair amount of money and doesn't mind flaunting it. Edalene also doesn't mind attracting minions since she prefers administration in the "I tell YOU what to do and then I just oversee it" sense.
The OOC Player Verdict seems to be she's probably a master and probably evil. Or at the least crabby enough she might as well be.
Kei Shinomori - A somewhat timid boy of 17 years who tends to fit the general nerd stereotype fairly well. Obviously of japanese origin (due to the name) he's lived in the area for quite a while, though his hair is more a silver color than the typical japanese black. Does well in school, as you'd expect, but doesn't really seem to have many other hobbies. Been scraped up a bit recently, but it remains to be seen whether theres anything to it beyond just being picked on.
The OOC Player verdict is he is either unimportant or a master. 50/50 it seems. I'm starting to think the players label anyone a master who has a name besides "Average guy crossing street in background." But that's because I think they consider the latter to be servants.
Maya - Makoto's sick younger sister. She has green hair and red eyes. Stays at home most of the time. A generally cheerful person when not ill.
There is limited information on her so far, so not much has been said on her besides the obvious.
The Adventure:
The day started out bright and early save for letters that the war begins at 6:00 PM that night. There is also mention that the Atlas guild will have a shop up with components and things like that.
There was also a newspaper, targetted with the usual paperboy efficiency of somewhere-in-the-general-vicinity-of-building, but only Kasawagi stopped to read it in the early portion of the day. The primary article revolved around the fact that a freak storm had destroyed the upper floors of an office building in the downtown. Freak of course meaning that the news company didn't really have much explanation but they couldn't very well blame things on Godzilla again since no tanks of propane were involved. Beings how this is Japan and things like this regularly happen nobody seemed to much care though.
Everyone reached school without incident and arrived at their first class. Ricardo was teaching European history that semester and was covering the 100 years war that day. Sarah beat him to the classroom and was sitting staring out the window, but she didn't really say too much, even when prompted. Kasawagi arrived next, followed by Edalene, some people who were more involved in the track team than their school work, Kei, a couple girls who are kind of hangers-on for Edalene, and last Makoto. The rest of the class was just your basic students. Nobody that really stood out really.
Makoto was having a fairly tiring day since he works a few jobs to support himself and his sick younger sister and Edalene seemed to be in a fit about something but no one was quite brave enough to ask her about what. Kasawagi was being his antisocial self and Ricardo basically stuck to the lesson. Nothing of incident occured in the class otherwise.
Kasawagi's class after that was chemistry while Makoto had government. The former got stopped by Edalene with work student council work she was foisting off on people and the latter went into the bathroom to agnst for a bit about how poor he was before going to class. Ricardo stopped Kei for a bit to ask if there were any problems but didn't get anything out of him. Everyone else left without additional fanfare.
Sarah and one of Edalene's minions were in the chemistry class with Kasawagi and Edalene was in Makoto's government class. Nothing else happens though of note, though Sarah seemed to like Chemistry more than European History. After this was lunch (since their school just has two morning and two afternoon classes that run longer).
Kasawagi spent the time doing Edalene's work for her and seeing if there was any special meaning. The special meaning ended up just being Edalene doesn't like to do her own work. Edalene herself was off somewhere during that period. Makoto and Ricardo talked on the roof about Makoto's home problems and how his sister was sick. Ricardo offered to come visit and Makoto accepted. Makoto also talked about animals at his side job in the zoo.
People then asked the Lord God if he was logging the chat and God was. No one sacrificed virgins though or pretty cats with soft silky fur you just want to pet and stroke all day long like Shiki does with his cats.
People returned to class about 1:00 PM and the day continued. There was some moderate rain in the afternoon. Ricardo had a prep period during third period and then another European History in fourth (like first and second). Makoto and Kasawagi had English together during third and then Kasawagi finished with Japanese Composition. Makoto was scheduled to have P.E. but it was rained out so there was just a study hall for him that day. Time passed until 3 PM and then school ended.
Edalene returned long enough at the end of the day to confiscate someone else's umbrella and collect up reports from Kasawagi and others. Then she got her car and went home. His report met her approval, but she was still mad for the lost opportunity of getting mad.
Ricardo's servant "Greg" met him as he was leaving and showed him the newspaper and indicated he thought something was up since it seemed like there were a bunch of chunks of large hail that wouldn't occur naturally. There were no known casulties but it still seemed strange. They then decided to walk over to the wineshop on their way to Makoto's. The rain let up a little bit on the way, enough that people could go outside without running between overhangs.
Kasawagi just went home, his servant was out so he just decided to stick around and wait on him, though he read the paper a bit more. Not too much of interest happened for the immediate future.
Elsewhere Makoto got back home. He saw the newspaper but wasn't too interested. He went inside and visited a bit with his servant "Shuen," asking about his sister. She was sleeping but no major issues.
Makoto gave her her medicine after Ricardo arrived, and Ricardo asked "Greg" if he could do anything to help her. "Greg" was apparently some kind of doctor or faith healer or something of that nature. It didn't seem like whatever he did though did much against the illness. Time passed and eventually they parted ways. Ricardo decided to go stop by the Atlas shop, even though it wasn't scheduled to be open yet, and Makoto stuck around at home for the time being. He had work later and was just going to look after his sister for the time being. After a little while he gets up to leave for his job.
Elsewhere Kasawagi's servant got home. Kasawagi patrols until about five, when he returns home. He finds the downtown to be rather elaborate, containing a lot of good hiding spots and vantage areas for the war. Park is a more open spot if that seems to suggest itself better. Some nutcase has also built their own transylvanian castle (imported block by block from a real one in Transylvania) a little ways from the old Einzbern Castle.
So, at 5:00 PM Kasawagi and his servant were at home, Ricardo and his servant were on their way to the Atlas Shop, and Makoto was considering leaving for work. And so ends Day 1, Session 1.
I'm starting to think the players label anyone a master who has a name besides "Average guy crossing street in background."
Actually, player identification of NPCs is a complex calculation in which the primary variable is hair. If hair colour is mentioned, they're a Master. If hair style is mentioned, they're a Servant. If neither is mentioned, they're a cunningly disguised Dead Apostle.
Captain_Overkill Evaron's Witless Minion My hobbies: Blowing things up, talking about blowing things up, posting about blowing things up, studying military history to better blow things up... well, you get the idea. I also play Exalted way too damn much.
People then asked the Lord God if he was logging the chat and God was. No one sacrificed virgins though or pretty cats with soft silky fur you just want to pet and stroke all day long like Shiki does with his cats.
Talk about divine intervention....
Anyway, The bunny was cute, and we didn't have much else to focus on, on the other hand, after meeting mysterious cloaked person, we now have more stuff to play around with.
And what happened to our outrageous theories about Edalain and Sarah being a master-servant pair, just that we couldn't decide on who the master was....
And what happened to our outrageous theories about Edalain and Sarah being a master-servant pair, just that we couldn't decide on who the master was....
Well you could always do what my last RPG group did with my failed D&D experiment. Kill anything that moves minus your allies and servants. Cause thats what they literally did.
EX: Me: You see a man wearing a dark cloak approaching you, his light complextion is met by his jet black hair. He whispers, "Your a master right? I have an item just for you if you manage to complete this tas-"
Idiot Friend #1: I use UBW on him
Me: I didn't finish. Okay "Your a master right? I have an item just for you if you manage to complete this task for me."
Idiot Friend #2: I use mystic eyes on him.
Now imagine them doing to every student, teacher, bystander, cute four legged animal they come across.
Alex Patchel and "Jeanne" - See first post for information on this PC/NPC group.
The Bunny - A perfectly normal white bunny.
OOC Player Verdict is that its Angra Mainyu. At least I think so considering they spent most of the session chasing the bunny.
Atlas Shop Owner - A grey haired man with a short bear of middle years. Fairly bulky and made up mostly of muscle, but a little from some laid-back living too. Is very careful to have a highly secure store so one like bunnies get inside.
OOC Player Verdict isn't much at this time as he only appeared once, and then just to get into his car. Everyone seems to agree he doesn't like bunnies though.
Woman-on-Park-Bench - An attractive blonde who looks to be about 25. Or whatever someone would consider the appropriate age of being in their prime. The kind of girl who other girls plot murder of out of envy as Medusa Rider's shirt would be too tight on her and her skirt a bit too loose. Though maybe a Sakura at her current age of about 24 could beat her out considering how she looked as a high school freshman. A very elitist person but little else is known for the time being. Except she was sitting on a Park Bench.
OOC Player Verdict is since out of several choices a player spoke to her instead of the others indicates she is probably both a dead apostle, Edalene's servant, and the one who pulls the strings of the Zionist conspiracy. Control of the Illuminati and Right Wing Conspiracies being ceded to the bunny.
Or maybe since she's blonde she's half of Altrouge's genetics that got split off during a transporter accident.
Winter's Cloak - A mysterious person in a druidic cloak of a frosty blue color. Save for that they're a bit on the short side and of at least reasonably weight nothing else is known about their identity as yet. Though they do appear to be quite powerful.
OOC Player Verdict isn't much at this point. Except that they'll try and find out more next time. Most seem to think they are either a master or a servant. Likely caster if the latter.
They might know more by accident since I almost used a gender specific pronoun. But I just caught myself in time. Ha ha!
The Adventure:
We started where we left off last time at 5:00 PM on the first day. An hour left until the grail war officially started.
Kasawagi decided to stay home for a while and create a territory for himself in order to prepare for any future assaults. This took him until about 8 in the evening to finish up. His servant stuck around with him during this period.
Elsewhere Ricardo had left Makoto's house and went wandering into town to see if the shop was open. The first of many who had forgotten what "Tomorrow Morning" meant. So when he got there he found it locked up, though someone was inside setting up stuff judging by the lights being on. It used to be a pawn shop it seemed, and was quite small, but knocks got no response.
A bunny hopped by and peered at him during this interval. No one else showed up but he stared at the bunny like he expected it to turn from a furry thing into hot jailbait any moment. tjm has contaminated the game with his summaries of KT apparently.
Alex was getting things set up for his noodle shop profession nearby, keeping "Jeanne" in the back. He and Ricardo stared at each other for a long while. A stray bunny and a tumbleweed went by.
After a while Ricardo and "Greg" went to go sit down and ate at the noodle shop while Ricardo and Alex talked about the Atlas place in kind of vague terms. The Atlas Shop owner exited around then and went to go get in his car. He had to shoo the bunny off from getting inside though, as it attempted to do. The bunny made one of those noises you rarely hear from the normally silent creatures, glared at him, and darted off to the park. Ricardo decided to pursue after it.
Alex and "Jeanne" decided to explore about the area after Ricardo left, and met up with Makoto who had decided to skip work and go visit the not-open shop too. The shop owner left about then in his car.
After some moderate discussion and the revelation to Makoto that Ricardo was off stalking bunnies, they decided to break in, much to "Jeanne's" distress at the lawbreaking. Alex's explosives, "Shuen's" main force, and Makoto's "I read what the sign written in flyspecks says" attempts did no good however, and they were just assaulted by numerous bunny traps.
Things were getting to around a quarter after seven with no results and their servants wanted to be gone considering the war was well underway and it was dark out. But their masters were much smarter and knew that breaking and entering was the best use of their time while people might be aiming arrows at them from behind.
Back with Ricardo, he had reached the park a bit ago and was after the bunny, who had escaped into some bushes. Despite their best efforts though, it had vanished. Only other little animals of the forest and a few people still around the mostly deserted park were in sight. Sensing failure about 7:30 they decided to go investigate the ruined building from the news earlier. Ricardo distracting "Greg" from the search by pointing out a attractive female on a park bench. She didn't take kindly to being hit on though. Ricardo tried to apologize in a section he MSTed himself:
I blink.... "You wouldn't happen to have seen a bunny pass by here would you?"
-Pause-
(THAT SOUND'S LIKE THE WORST PICKUP LINE EVER)
She pointed out a squirrel and told him to have fun with his little perverted fantasies. Ricardo and "Greg" left at this point.
Elsewhere Kasawagi finished up his territory and Makoto decided he'd go home. Kasawagi had a feeling something might be going on in the town, due to clairvoyance, and decided to investigate. He left with his servant and noted Edalene on the way (going the other direction, apparently annoyed and alone), but he decided to ignore her.
Arriving at the park on the northwestern edge he saw some sifting ash but no sign of an actual blaze. As it was dark already he found this disturbing and decided to skirt the edge and go visit the not-open shop like everyone else.
Meanwhile Makoto and Alex's group heard a crash on the other side of the Atlas and shop and walked over to investiage. Finding one of the alley walls collapsed, opening up a whole to a bakery next door, they went in to look and found a man in the rubble. They decided to just walk in and investigate, conviently blocking the two-person-wide passage for their servants. He attacked shortly thereafter and Alex demonstrated what would be patriotism in America by shooting him at close range. Though the man was a bit faster and one bullet went wide it was still enough to finish him off without injury. He crumbled into ash then, apparently one of The Dead.
After some discussion where Alex explained to Makoto what The Dead were, apparently something he learned in his occupation, they went into the store. Whoever or whatever had tossed The Dead through a wall though was long gone. Makoto decided to raid the cash register anyway since it was convienient and he can blame all his misdeeds on feeding his sister. "Jeanne" wasn't too happy about theft, but decided to let it lie.
Alex started making some special bullets for his gun, just in case of more fighting, and Makoto inquired if he was a mage too. Then they discussed the war a little. We learn Makoto supposedly didn't directly summon "Shuen" and that Alex is after someone doing illegal summoning of some kind.
Elsewhere Kasawagi and his servant were proceeding along the edge of the park. He saw the blonde woman from the park bench a little ways into the park in one direction and a group of four men that seemed a bit confused off a ways in the direction he was going. Though it seemed a bit dangerous he decided he'd approach them and see what they were up to.
Finally, Ricardo and "Greg" saw some ash over in the east, where they were walking. Exploring a bit deeper they saw someone in an icy blue cloak walking in park. They ignored all attempts Ricardo made at communication. A couple of The Dead charged at the cloaked person from another direction but they were dealt with almost faster than Ricardo could tell the person to look out. Seemingly still barely alive by evading some of the worst of the cloaked person's attack, they were nonetheless sealed in a wave of ice that was stronger than steel. Ricardo and "Greg" believed there was a connection between this incident and the ice in the tower incident, but decided not to ask the person. An attempt to chip at the ice (for whatever reason) after the cloaked person left proved futile. They decided to run off and act like they saw nothing.
So, as of the end, Kasawagi and his servant were approaching the group of men, the woman-on-park-bench in another direction, Ricardo and his servant had seen a cloaked person fighting The Dead (pretty darn well) and were making a quick exit, and Makoto, Alex, and their servants were discussing the Grail war in a now-robbed-and-totalled breadshop. The time at the end of the day was 8:00 PM.
Most after game conversation centered around where the bunny was.
Wow... This looks quite interesting! Though Banquo suggested I try for acceptance into the game, I've no real experience with the FATE game or with RP'ing in chat rooms. And, I must say, the bunny talk does scare me a tad bit. But it's not nearly as bad as some of the other stuff out and about on these boards.
Ok, first let me say I'm not quite back yet. Just typing from a hotel during off-time.
But so far as the game I want to get through next Saturday's first before I think about opening it up again. After that a few more things should be explained. Then we can see.
The system is one I made so no one has experience with it beyond the two sessions we have had. Chat room playing is quite a lot like playing an rpg in person. So not too hard to pick up.
Bunny thing should have more information on it next time most likely. As well as other questions.
