Question about Trial Version of Fate « Thread Started on Jan 27, 2004, 6:17pm »
I'm having a bit of a problem trying to look at the trial version. I've tried running it on both ME and XP systems, the latter of which ran Tsukihime fine, and while it seems to install fine on either, upon launching it I basically get a bunch of coding to pop up and some form of blank error message. I also get a little tiny window with some buttons that don't seem to do much. Only one that seems to do anything is a close button. Does anyone have a clue what I could do to fix this? I really am at a total loss. I haven't really modified either of my systems all that much so I'm not sure if I might be missing some requirement to play more recent japanese games or something. I will note I usually get the japanese text displayed as random things like asteriks and ampersands on my XP system, and Ascii garbage on my ME system. This was true of Tsukihime too, however, and XP seemed good enough to solve the issue. Icons and such in the directories show up fine and uninstallation and adding of start buttons places etc works as well.
Anyway, sorry to bother everyone, but I really don't know another place to ask since I can't read Japanese at all. I just wanted to mess around with the game and see how it was out of curiosity since I liked Tsukhime and figured someone might have gotten past this battle at one point or another. Thanks for any help.

Hmm, did you get your Trial version from the Typemoon official site? Well, mine worked fine though on XP, in fact I finished playing the trial... And did you change the language and regional settings in XP to Japanese? That way you should be able to view Japanese text...and play ALL Japanese games... Installing latest directX and graphics drivers is recommended too.

Yes, I got it off the official Typemoon site, so there should be no problem there.
I am not sure how to change the language and regional settings. I tried once or twice in an attempt to make Tsukihime not deluge me with random ampersands but I was unable to figure out how. Would you mind explaining briefly where this is and if I need to download anything? I think I can do it alright with a fairly simple explanation as I otherwise know the system pretty well.
And on an incidental issue, I assume there is nothing I need to do besides hit next during installation and choosing directories, correct? There were a few checkmarks but I just left them as default since I didn't know what they did.

Ok, I'll say this step by step. In XP, go to the "Regional and Language Options" in Control Panel. Go to the Languages tab and see if you have installed "East Asian Languages" under the "Supplemental Languages Support" option. Install it and reboot when told. Then this time go to the Advanced tab in the "Regional and Language Options" and choose Japanese under the "Language for non-Unicode Programs" area. Usually this is enough to play most jap games but if you want, select "Japanese" in the "Regional Options" tab to change all the standards and formats(warning: time and calendar will be in Jap). Apply changes and reboot if told. Now you should be able to see the jap text in Tsukihime and hopefully Fate trial.
