I know his twin chinese swords are called Kanshu and Bakuya and their story from Moonlit World.
The 'arrow' he uses in most animations/pics that I've seen is Caladbolg II. Don't know any story behind it though if any.
Another thread, http://nrvnqsr.proboards20.com/index.cgi....read=1137308620 , mentioned another 'arrow' called Hrunting (is that spelling correct?) and again don't know story behind it if it has any.
Does Archer's bow have a name? And what are other weapons he's specifically used if any, in either arrow form or as they were meant to be used?

Archer's bow doesn't really seem to be anything legendary, unless Hollow Ataraxia proved it otherwise, and I haven't played that one.
His Seven Shields (Lo-Aias?) comes from Greek mythology, and it's supposedly a bronze shield with 7 leather paddings sewn on. It's the one he blocks Gae Bolg with. The pink flowerlike one.

Ooo... yay. This wasn't explicitly said, though Crimson probably knows given the words he chose. Telamonian Aias, also better known as Telamonian Ajax from the Illiad, had a bronze shield with seven layers of leather underneath.
Quote:| "Ajax approached bearing his shield. / It was like a tower made of bronze, with seven layers, / each one of ox-hide, a weapon made by Tychius..." - Illiad |
|
And since we know Fate likes to use the original pronunciation, though I have to wonder what the "ロー" at the beginning is supposed to mean. I thought "Rho," but I'm not sure of the significance of that.
Gahh... now I feel like I'm stating an obvious and I didn't search the forums enough.

I forgot where I read this, but the bow archer uses is composed of a future material that doesn't exist currently. Its suppose to be weird because the archery Shirou does is formal Japanese style, but the one Archer uses is of an "international" style. (Pardon for the wording, don't know what the regular archery is called . . .)

It always seemed formal japanese style took too long to set up. Maybe he switched to the draw style from a Welsh longbow because it's quicker.
*shrugs*
Could be that the writer just got mixed up. It does happen on rare occasion. Maybe he'd put it that way in his head to add a little bit of confusion and cloud the issue of Archer being Shirou in the original game, yet never got a chance to use it since Archer didn't actually Arch?

I found where I read this. It's inside Fate Side Material. It indeed says that the material used is a future material that doesn exist now. The one that Archer uses the "draw style" (borrowing mrtags word) in which the arrow is shot on the fist side. The Archer bow that Shirou copied is similar, but to accompany his style is tweaked a little so it is a Japanese style bow and the arrow is shot on the palm side.

On Kanshou Bakuya, there are some chinese engravings on them. Does anybody know what it says? And also, why is Archer (and Shirou) so obsessed with this weapon? I mean, the background of it is very interesting . . . But what makes these pair of swords so attracting?
Also, this is reguarding something else, but are there other double swords that are legendary? Kanshou Bakuya was the first and only that I know, so . . .

I think somewhere on Moonlit World Evo says Archer liked them because the wife of the man who smithed them sacrificed herself to finish them. He likes the drama and heart that went into them.

Makes sense, but how about Shirou? In UBW, the first time he saw it, he was really attracted to it. I guess you can plainly say its because they are the same person though. . .

Dunno, maybe since Shirou understands weapons so well he could feel the emotion that went into making the swords. Anyone who specializes in a certain field can at one point judge the quality of something within that field on sight.

The idea of those two people sacrificing their life to forge those weapons is quite similar to Shirou's UBW wouldn't you say? The incantation for it is pretty much sacrificing your life for the one path creating his "unlimited blades."

Speaking about that, parts of the mantra don't make complete sense to me.
"Unknown to death, nor known to life." or "Unaware of loss, nor aware of gain."
"...yet these hands will never hold anything." or "...waiting for one's arrival."
I also wonder why Archer ends with "So as I pray." He seems too cynical (and, in the scenarios where he tries to kill Shiro to avoid his fate, selfish) for prayer.
| "Do not confuse the inexcusable for the unforgivable. If a crime can be excused, then there was nothing to forgive in the first place. It is only when a crime is inexcusable that forgiveness is even an issue. And at that point, forgive. Forgive, if only because it sets you free. Bitterness never produced anything sweet."
"Tears wash away weakness, leaving strength. Cry, then stand tall again." |

Those are Type-Moon english after all. ^^;
"Unknown to Death. Nor known to Life." I believe it means Archer is a person who knows of neither death or life, but only to continue fighting.
"Unaware of loss. Nor aware of gain." Shirou is a person that doesn't care about his own loss or gain, but continues to help others.
"So as I pray, unlimited blade works" I believe this was supposed to be Shirou's last line ? and Archer's should be: "My whole life was unlimited blade works"
Also, it's funny how the official english chant and the japanese chant becomes a bit different after the 2nd line.
