Ep 4 is not bad but it could be better. Rin did her role well, but Shirou come across being too naive and too principled to be involved in a magi war like the Holy Grail War.

Also, I've noticed (with help from the "Forces" AMV) that when Lancer and Archer fought in the game, Lancer had those "berserker/killing monster" lines creeping up his neck that I see with Type Moon's vampires and Black Sakura.
Ahaha, I helped someone, in a round about way! Yay for me.
I was delighted to see Caster make an appearance, albeit a short one, in episode 4. My excitement rose even higher when I watched the preview for episode 5 and saw that Rin will be chasing Shirou through the school. So then, it's looking like this will be Fate mixed with a little bit of UBW. Maybe I'll get to see some bad ass Archer action after all! Speaking of which, I was a little annoyed that Rin didn't bother summoning Archer to help Saber against Berserker. I'm sure Rin had her reasons (perhaps Archer was grievously wounded) but it meant less Archer goodness for the kids at home.
I liked everything else about this episode though. It's just a pain that I have to wait another week for the next.

So Sakura seems to react to the smell of blood . . . Perhaps a new story line which leads into Ataraxia?! Come to think of it, I'm not too sure how it lead to Ataraxia. Rider and Saber were both there, so was a composure of UBW and HF?
Anyway, really happy to actually hear the lines from the game. Can't wait till PS2 version comes out!
It did not last one second. But I shall remember this day clearly, even if I fall to the gates of hell.

Redcomet: Archer got hit pretty bad by Saber not to long before the fight with Berserker. I guess he's wasn't in the right condition to fight Berserker so soon.

Ep 4 had far too little destruction in Berserkers wake. And Rin's spell didn't make Berserker look strong. It made her look weak. What a pittiful sounding thing that was.

I didn't say that Lancer DID enter the Warp Spasm. I said that it looked like the Spasm peaked through, a little, during intense moments. (Though I don't know how that fight between Lancer and Archer went -- he might have slipped fully into the real thing for all I know.)
Quote:
Because he was summoned as Lancer
If he was summoned as berserker he would have surely kept that.
The Warp Spasm wouldn't be a Permanent Rage state like we see with Heracles the Berserker. I'd picture it more as a Hyper Mode that carries the drawback of going berserk. Whether or not Lancer can control when it activates, and whether he must fight to contain it, is another story...
Speaking of which, looking at Berserker, I don't see that he's really berserk at all. He seems to be merely a fierce animal -- possessing feral cunning, but lacking human intelligence. If he were truly berserk, he'd never stop attacking an opponent (as we see in Episode 4) and would always be attacking something unless restrained.
Is that the true distinction between Berserkers and Sabers? The lack of sapience and humanity? I suppose it would allow the introduction of various mythical or legendary monsters into the Grail War.
Returning to the Saber Class, why did Saber's eyes turn red?
And what does it mean that Sakura's eyes lack pupils? Shirou and Heracles have distinct black pupils, but everyone else simply have their pupils distinguished through lines or darker colors.
I also don't get why only one of Heracle's eyes glows and the other is clear and normal. In all previous art, his eyes are either glowing like coals, blank black (or shadowed by his deep eyesockets?), or blank white.
Shirou simply should not have been able to move fast enough to cross that distance and shove Saber out of the way of the attack. Fortunately, I'm able to explain that with the same reason as to why he wasn't cut completely in half and why he managed to heal.
"Do not confuse the inexcusable for the unforgivable. If a crime can be excused, then there was nothing to forgive in the first place. It is only when a crime is inexcusable that forgiveness is even an issue. And at that point, forgive. Forgive, if only because it sets you free. Bitterness never produced anything sweet."
"Tears wash away weakness, leaving strength. Cry, then stand tall again."

Excerpt from the dictionary Berserker -
A Servant type without basic stat requirements, other than that it specializes only in destruction, by going "berserk". The stronger the spirit that is summoned into the Berserker class, the more difficult it is for the Master to control it. Under a normal Master, there is the risk of the Command Spells themselves being cancelled, but as the Command Spells of Ilyasviel, the Holy Grail, are special, it is possible to control it.
With regards to Hercules himself -
Because his emotions have been sealed, he cannot act on his own. But despite the powerful strength of the Command Spells that bind him, he hasn't lost that core ability to think. The fact that he stopped his sword in the very end, after he had been corrupted in the Sakura route, is a testament to the strength of the heart of Hercules, who had suffered from "madness" when he was still alive.
Also, Berserker wasn't actually berserked during the first fight.

Blood got into her eyes.

In anime & manga it usually means that those characters have some kind of a dark past.

The same reason Saber didn't attack Ilya right away when she had the chance. =P Although I was hoping it was kind of a hidden message that she hesitated because she had a resemblance of "him", but she didn't hesitate at all.

Yeah it means this Berserker was that strong without even going Berserk, which rasises his all his stats.
By the way, is it me or the discussion on this thread tend to be off topic from the main points of the show? Not that its a bad thing, just thought it was interesting.
My inputs on ep4.
- Great character development for Shirou. He's inexperienced, but I don't think he's "naive" He had the courage and strength to save Saber, and continues to think about what he can do even after all that. - Berserker. He didn't feel powerful as I imagined because he didn't trash cars or anything. But the battle went well. Not flashy enough, but enough to make you see that Servants are beyond human. - Ilya's voice actor is kind of iffy, but her experssions are perfect. - The woman in the cloak. Cool. Is she a Servant? A Master? or both!? =P - Rin's Gant looked so cheap. A laser gun effect in an old school anime...? Too bad Archer couldn't come out. - Saber in casual clothing. and she smiles. - Rin & Sakura. Nice, good to know they would be explaining that part of the story in the anime. If you knew Japanese then it's already pretty clear because Sakura is someone who would always use a polite form of "Good Morning" to a Senior student, but she used the normal form. I wonder how far they would go into the HF scenario... - Rin vs Shirou @ school. More goodness. If they follow the UBW scenario here, then the next Servant they fight is...

The part with Rin and Sakura still makes me hope to see a bit of the Heaven's Feel arc taking place. I don't know how they behave in the other 2 scenarios, but it's clear as hell there's something between those girls, and they'd better explain it well. Rin really seems not at ease around Sakura, and it's not like her at all.
And is it me or does it look like Sakura just had that sort of meeting with Shinji ?
Anyway, good ep. Only gripe for most of the anime so far is that the battle scenes are weak. I expected mass destruction everywhere ! The fight CGs of the game look more spectacular.
Don't regret the past. Don't doubt the present. Don't fear the future.

Well we'll know when we see eps 5 and 6. Rin's gant will definitely look more impressive against Shirou's.... erm was it an enhanced chair or table?
Anyway, Rin's gant was not supposed to explode into flames thus it only dissipate against Berserker's thick skin. I think gant is some sort of magical ball of physical energy that can knock things over thus it looked weak against that big chunk of Berserker wall.

If I remember correctly, the sorcery of gant is a type of curse. Rin's curse is too strong, so it manifests physically. Say Rin is really mad at a ball of rubber bands. She curses it that it would break down. If someone weaker than Rin used gant to curse the ball, it would take a while for the ball to be broken (something needs to happen to the ball for the curse to manifest, I think.) However Rin's gant is so strong it just does the job for Rin.
...but, it's been a while since I read that... uh... what was the name... the encyclopedia thingy. Gant is supposed to be a curse, and Rin's gant manifest physically, but I don't know how it really works. I think that was it... *scratches head*
