Hollow VII: Patrol and Encounter « Thread Started on Feb 26, 2006, 3:05am »
Anyway, since school's started and I've kind of gotten bored of fiddling around, I've started this up again. I'll be fitting the VS part in this when I get some more time this week. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- No anomalies (I)
Nothing that noticable on this end of the residential district. There was just no one walking outside. The houses here were normal as usual.
"There is nothing strikingly abnormal....but, I do feel that something is not quite right."
More like the facts are conflicting against each other. We can hear the clamor of peaceful families enjoying their post-supper evening. The eve at Miyamachou was still lit up by the lights coming from these houses. So then why is it that on so normal an evening, we haven't passed by anyone else?
"Yeah, but, there's nothing dangerous right? Let's go to the next place. Yeah, the next place." I turned my back away from the oriental end of the residential area.
"...Ah. Saber, somebody just went inside that house. Looks like he just came back from work."
The apparent shadow of a person smoothly entered his dwelling without ringing the door chime.
"Is that true? I hadn't noticed." "Ah, so you couldn't see from your position. Oh well, at the very least, we did across one person."
Now then, since what was missing had been pieced back in, we should go somewhere else.

The guardian of the temple gate
The temple gate was void of activity. There weren't any noticable changes here. After all, this mountain almost an hour away from town had always been wrapped in silence.
".............." I had come to Ryuudouji with Saber before, but this was the first time I came here with her since the Heaven's Feel. I wonder why I'm feeling like this. I wouldn't be bothered if I came here alone, but with Saber, I'm feeling a little scared. This had to be, where
-The end of something was sleeping.
"Shirou?" "Sorry, I zonked out a little. Do you feel anything, Saber?" "I do not feel anything disquieting. Even if there were new strangeness to be found here, I think it to be hard to believe that Ryuudouji would be assaulted."
"This is Caster's territory, after all. The defense of this area against outside enemies is perfect. Even after the end of the Heaven's Feel, she still remained cautious of the other Servants."
"Yeah, sometimes I do talk with her at Ryuudouji, but it feels like she's keeping her distance. According to Kuzuki-sensei though, she just isn't used to dealing with the neighbors yet, so I ought to be a little forgiving." Well, when you do think of her backscene plotting, it is a little hard to suddenly start being friendly with each other.
"So anyway. Saber, what do you think about Caster? Do you think she's involved?" "I don't mean to defend her, however, this probably is not her doing. For example, the continuation of the Heaven's Feel would bring nothing to her as she has no desires to be granted." ".....That's true. She probably wants more than us for things to go on the way they are. This is the peacefulness that she had never been able to get."
...........Yeah, putting that aside.
"You were saying her defense was perfect right? Are there any other tricks up her sleave other than Assassin?" "Yes, an almost neurotic defensive barrier. Ignoring the case of Assassin who was summoned only for the purpose of guarding the gate, even without a war, there has been a increase in the number of traps with each passing month. It is enough to cause one to suspect that she was not doing it out of protection but testing them out as a hobby."
.....Hahaa. So that's what's making you distrust Caster, eh. Supposing if by some accident Caster did become friends with Saber, they'd have the sort of relationship where they'd argue with each other all the time.
"I don't think we have to go all the way in though. There's nothing unusual here. And I can't help but get the feeling that we'd be poking our heads into a bee hive if we did." I want to avoid being mistaken for attackers. The other onlooking Servants aren't going to ignore this if a fight broke out over something as insignificant as this.
"I agree. We best leave Assassin to his duties and return to town. He is somewhat of a difficult person to deal with, but he is not one that would allow wrongs to go on out of mischief. There is the part of him that engages in a life to death battle as if it were entertainment, but he also enjoys tranquility just as much."
Saber's right. As long as Assassin's protecting the temple gates, no suspicious characters will be entering.

The silver thread
The sky's close. The highest building in the city. That ceiling was once again, strikingly lit by the strong moon light this eve. "........." I didn't really have a specific motive for coming here.
I wasn't overlooing the city. Instead, my eyes were always looking upward. The moon is close. The missing lunar phase somehow looked like a grail. For a while, I had the foolish notion that I thought I could reach it from here. I'd need a rocket to go to the moon. Either that or a nauseatingly long ladder. Without that, I wouldn't be able to get there.
"Might as well go back. Nothing to do here by myself." I left behind the silver thread.
This is where the sky, the empty sky, is. Even with this tall a tower, I cannot reach it, not yet, not in the beginning.

A peaceful Shinto
We couldn't see too many people by the station front. The rush back from work ended hours ago. From looking at things, a person came out from the station once every 30 minutes. Still. There might be only a few people here, but there still are people walking. But there's something wrong here.
"Shirou? Is there something disturbing you? Whenever you look at me, you are holding back your forehead." Yeah, this is what's wrong. Luckily there had been no one going out in Miyamachou, but going out wearing that in front of the station is making you stand out too much.
"Never mind. There doesn't seem to be anything unusual here. Let's go somewhere else." "But we have only just arrived. During the war, we would have patrolled through the office districts and gone as far as the factories. It isn't like you, Shirou, to slack on your patrolling. What happened to your usual, almost neurotic thoroughness?"
"Gr. ....I mean, you're right, but." I know it's not like me. But first off, it's hard to put effort into a late-night patrol of searching for something that ought to be searched. I wonder what Saber thinks about that part.
"Say, Saber. What do you think of these patrols?" "I am doing what would help you above anything else, however, if you wish to know. I do have my worries about the anomalies in the city, but I don't think it is one that bears the city itself ill will. Rather, these anomalies are all-"
She then halted herself mysteriously.
"Saber? Oh come on, tell me. I'm not Tohsaka. Don't just stop there out of spite."
"....No, I did not have that kind of intention...however, in the case that there is an enemy and one that does have malice, I cannot help but feel that all of that malice is directed towards Shirou. Just as Archer had attacked you, the other Servants may target you."
"Geh. I mean, that'd be frightenning, but you do know I already talked to the others right? They pretty much said they don't want to fight, so I think I should be safe. The only exception was Archer, but it seemed like he only same me as a hostile."
".....I see. So Archer viewed only you as an enemy." Saber began to think deeply.
"Shirou, this confirms it. We must seriously proceed with our investigation. We had not found anything yet in Miyamachou, but there must be some sort of tears in Shinto."
So Saber marched off energetically the plaza. An aggressive Saber is a scary sight, but walking around with that is just as scary. It's impossible to stop her when she's like that. Oh well. Might as well reenergize myself and march around the office end of town.

The shore where he is
Nothing strange at the harbor. This is Lancer's territory. I find it hard to believe that there'd be anything suspicious crawling where he's staying. "Lancer...isn't here huh. And I had this image of him setting up a tent and eating food with a camping pot too."
"Yes, he does seem to be able to live as he pleases anywhere. From Taiga says, I believe that he is camping on that coast."
Ooh, over there. The locals wouldn't go over there when it's not summer break. Yeah, I guess it'd be just like Lancer's hideout. ....But while he's doing that, there's going to be a urban legend one of these days about a bushcraft sage ninja living in a forest on the outskirts of Fuyuki.
"Nothing wrong on the coast line. Shall we leave the wild to Crocodile Dundee and return to civilization, m'lady?"
"Shirou, you have the wrong impression of Lancer. He does seem that way, but he understands this current era many more times than me. The word "virile" fits him both physically and mentally."
....Well, I do agree with that. In that aspect, I look up to Lancer. And. While I'm saying that, I really love how Saber didn't deny that Lancer is Crocodile Dundee.

How does she know how virile Lancer is physically? o_O She must be confusing him with Fergus mac Roich. (Of course I know she just means that he is masculine and tough.)
Nice translation though. I love how there is this little arrow pointing to Lancer's little hide-out. Also, Saber is cute. It almost feels like she wants to drag out the patrol longer just to spend more time alone with him.

Doesn't anybody wonder about that shadow of a person at the beginning, which IMO doesn't look like the shadow of a person at all ? And without ringing the door chime. I'd feel suspicious, personally.
Either way, Arai once again offers us a nice gift. You're either a God rewarding us, or the devil trying to seduce our weak souls with Moe-ness itself.

I'm voting for the latter former. Arai, you impress once again.
Judging from Shirou's flashbacks, mainly his parting with Saber ( ) and remembering Saber's fight with Rider, it seems like hollow ataraxia is mainly taking off from the Fate route, right?

Probably. I haven't really seen as many hints towards what happened in the other routes in hollow ataraxia. Personally, I'd like to pretend that what happened here could have happened after any of the other routes.

Hollow Ataraxia is like Kagetsu Tohya I think. Everyone has a big happy ending together. There's enough of Fate, UBW, and HF in there that everyone's story gets told and no one dies who isn't evil.
