Translation of Hollow Ataraxia: Ath nGabla scene « Thread Started on Nov 28, 2007, 3:46pm »
Found a Chinese fan-translated script while roaming on the Internet and translated it. I don't think there's a full English translation of this scene yet... apart from Arai's great job on a part of the sequence on Fuyuki Wiki. So I decided to have a try.
Since this is totally based on the Chinese script there are inevitably some differences between it and the original Japanese. I'm also not a pro translator. Therefore please forgive any mistakes that I've made and criticisms are welcome.
On the slope leading towards the church, we met once again Lancer kept his promise. "Nah. I'm just earlier than usual." His words were relaxed and casual, yet his armour was not. It was half a year ago since I saw him last in full battle array ...Yes It has been half a year since that war ended.
"So, how are we gonna do this? We know of our enemy's strategies, but do we have any tactics ourselves?" How to stop the opposing Master's Noble Phantasm, Fragarach, is the key to this battle. "No, Fragarach cannot be stopped. It is an extremely powerful countering Noble Phantasm. We are gonna lose whatever we do in a fair fight. In a comparison between Noble Phantasms, Fragarach should be one of the toughest."
Lancer contemplated. There is no way to stop Fragarach. It is a Noble Phantasm that can be only activated after the release of the opponent's ultimate attack. Thus, to defeat Bazett, one must not use one's own Noble Phantasm. If the enemy does not use the special abilities of a Noble Phantasm, Fragarach's power would be severely reduced.
"That's all?" "That's all. If I do not use my lance, Fragarach is just gonna be a low-level Noble Phantasm. Of course, if she keeps hitting me with that sword, the 'No Noble Phantasm' policy might become a tad annoying."
Lancer's glance told me that he would not lose if we stick to this strategy. Indeed, amateur sorcery and ranged attacks such as arrows and knife-throwing won't even scratch Lancer. His overall capacities as a warrior also supersede Bazett immensely. Based on this, a solid fight should not be a problem. However
'That woman and I are gonna finish all this with our Noble Phantasms. It shouldn't take too long, so just stay away and watch." Fragarach is indefeasible. Despite this decision, Lancer still rose to the sword's challenge.
Embarking on the path that leads to the church, we approached the temporary duelling ground. In the dim moonlight, one's gaze can yield nothing but shapeless shades. Whether it was the shadow of the moon, or the closeness of the stars In the void of the night where one can touch the darkness with a stretch of hand, there were two figures waiting for our arrival.
No longer knowing how many times this had occurred before The lady magus, followed by the shadow, fixed her stare onto the enemy as always. "----" As if she beheld a ghost, her sight became transfixed on Lancer's shape.
Lancer did not pay any attention to the magus. He was calculating with his fingers the distance between himself and his foe. One, two, three, four... Until just about ten metres away Lancer stopped at a suitable distance. His spear tip pointed to the ground.
"Algiz Nauthiz Ansuz Inguz" Was that some sort of a spell? A square with a rune at each corner appeared, but it did not feel like magecraft at work. Lancer stood in its middle. With a swing, the spear's pointed tip was levelled towards the opponent. --- Your move. No names were exchanged; the battle's aura spoke for itself.
"Avenger -- who is that?" Bazett asked the shadow. "A Servant. Isn't that obvious?"
"Impossible. I have not seen that Servant before. Which class does he belong to, Avenger? Not Saber. Not Archer, Rider, Caster, or Assassin. None of them. Which means --"
"Indeed. Blatantly obvious. Come on my Master, even with just his weapons, can't you figure out who he is?"
Full of mirth, the shadow laughed. But now The lady magician has lost all her eagerness for the kill. Gazing at the enemy in front of her she felt like shedding tears, sobbing without knowing the reason. -- Then Lancer's cold words pierced her heart.
"Hey you. I'm gonna take your life now." "Huh --?" She lifted her fists like she was afraid. Her resolve was completely gone.
"Wait -- please wait, I -- don't have a reason to fight you. You, too, have no reason for fighting meE "I do. Aren't you here to achieve victory in the War of the Holy Grail? Before the defeat of all Servants there can be no end to the War. Right now, you and I are here to finish each other off."
The shadow smiled. Just like a heartfelt smile.
"No -- I, I won't fight you...! No, won't fight you, won't fight you, won't fight you...! Because, because -- you know -- me, right?"
"Of course not. I don't remember knowing an underdog like you." A simple sentence. The lady magus's knees knelt down on the ground like a puppet cut from her strings. "-- then, you are my enemy?" There were no strings to seek help from; she stood up with her own will.
"Yes. You should know the meaning of the 'Ath nGabla' carved with runes?" "... The knight who set this seal is not allowed to retreat before any adversary. All warriors who see this seal are also not allowed to refuse combat. -- This is a curse of single combat amongst the Knights of the Red Branch."
This was the true reason that Lancer cast his rune magic. The lady magus resumed her battle pose. The spearman held the cursed lance tight in his palm.
...The air froze Lancer's Noble Phantasm, as if impatiently questioning its master, tensed eagerly for his call.
And, separated by a few metres, the lead sphere began to float behind the lady magus. This sphere is the Mystic Code of Bazett Fraga McRemitz, the sword Fragarach from the age of the gods. Lancer was well aware of its abilities, and had also concluded its limitless countering powers cannot be defeated.
However, even with such a conclusion made by himself, the hands that gripped the lance became even tighter. "-- Your heart" The spearman's arms rippled with strength It was not a throw. Lancer's own body was fused with his soaring spear.
"-- Answerer." The sphere began to expand. The sword of the war god, divinely protected by some malicious will, locked its target on the spearman's heart. "-- I'll take it--!"
The spring of the lance and the revelation of its true name occurred at the same moment The first to take to the air was the red spear Gáe Bolg "-- Such a naive Servant...!" Fragarach, the Answerer, the sword that alters light, rose to meet it Before oath of Ath nGabla no regrets are allowed Both with their greatest strike aim to destroy the enemy in front of them...!
The crossing of points An attack that means death to both of them The spearman does not have a shield to deflect the sword, the magus does not have a means to avoid the lance. However, if that is all there is to it, the lady magus will not be defeated. Just a little bit Just a little bit, but if the magus's sword hit its target that much quicker, the battle would have been decided in that instant.
Fragarach the Answerer This sword pierces far more than the enemy's heart It severs the fate of the combatants with its fearsome edge. It is truly a sword that can never be defeated.
Because of this, Fragarach cannot be released before its enemy's strike. The activation of the opposing Noble Phantasm is the pre-requisite for Fragarach's release. It is always the enemy that moves first Accordingly, even Fragarach kills the enemy, the Noble Phantasm of the opponent will simultaneous destroy the lady magus. Countering a one-turn-kill is using one's life as the bait to win the battle.
However, Bazett's sword reverses all the above. It is released immediately after the activation of the enemy's Noble Phantasm, yet how ever fast the opposing weapon is cast, it will always reach its target first, eliminating the enemy's life. As a deadly sword that gives no quarter, its own strength deserves praise But its true horrid powers lie in its special ability. The sword that takes off after its enemy's move, but strikes first Like its two names, Fragarach changes the flow of time, twisting it to make its own strike hit the enemy before the opposing move was ever made in the course of the world.
And the result? No matter how great a Noble Phantasm is, the dead can not use it. For one who is killed before he made his attack, all his later actions would become void. Fragarach distorts such facts of time and takes to the extremes. It is a curse that reverses the flow of destiny.
It is a sword that can nullify all attacks With time as its blade, it is truly an indefeasible weapon of the gods. Therefore This curse will not make Lancer an exception --

"-----" The sword of the war god was approaching Once Fragarach is let out, it cannot be stopped When Gáe Bolg meets Fragarach the former will shatter Lancer was well aware of this
The only method to survive an attack made by the sword of the war god is to possess an auto-resurrecting Noble Phantasm, or to have more than one life. In other words, 'something that remains alive after it has been killed' would have been Fragarach's mortal enemy. Of course, Lancer does not have such a Noble Phantasm. The spearman knew the conclusion before the battle, and he threw his lance with this in his mind.
At that moment Although there was only a split second, but the man in front of me seem to have faltered. "-- I didn't wanna say this. But I've got no choice. I didn't know there's gonna be a time limit."
What did he mean? I can't ask him. Only "- For god's sake, there's no point in dragging this on. I don't wanna see her turning into such a state." This man's irritability was still fresh in my memory.
It is an old story. "--- I, really might have wanted to kill you --" With a serene voice, the witch from the realm of shadows smiled as if in prayers.
-- It was a mythical time, when he inherited his spear. That witch, was human no more. An elite warrior, a master mage, a slayer of men, gods, and spirits As the only teacher that held the admiration of the Hound of Culann, the woman can not even hold her destined end of death in her own hands any longer. Her realm will one day be sundered from the mortal world, doomed to be a kingdom of the dead. The reward for a human that stood too close to the gods is ascension to a plane that is neither of this world nor the next.
"That's not good. If that was the case, I'd rather die before I ever met you." In the courtyard of the castle full of shades, the witch laughed. He laughed heartily as well. The beloved disciple, yet a youth, arrived at her castle using the shortest route. Even so --
"It would've been better if you appeared earlier. Ah, never mind. You're still young, still young." The witch laughed. The beloved disciple became a hero of renown. "I guess I should apologize for it, huh?" According to his way, he planned to pass his days in this world swift as the wind. "It seems I still took a long road --" As a man, lamenting for the woman that he loved...
The war god's sword penetrated the spearman's chest. ...! The temporary thrill of anguish filled his soul. The fingers tensed and with renewed strength once again became strong --- This spear, contained a regret. It took away the lives of those he loved the most. His indispensable friend. His son that grew up in a foreign land. But before all that, a woman was supposed to fell by his hand.
Thinking back, he no longer knew how many wrong turns he's made in this life. Although substituting one for another is impossible, but if there is someone waiting to be saved, then the duty that he could not fulfil in his youth can at this instant be carried full circle. With a resolute grin on his lips The spearman's brows furrowed with the pain of a shattered heart. "Ah, but -- why don't I ever have any luck with good women?" Only now, is there a complaint about his fate.
"Gotcha...! The lady magus believed in her complete victory. The sword of the war god defeated her enemy faster than the cursed lance. At that moment, Lancer's attack would be treated as an 'impossible event' and disappear in the reverse flow of time. This is the law of the world. To protect the absolute order of time, this is the obvious result.
"--, Huh?" But each principle follows its own strict rules A law is defeated by another law. The curse of time is also present on Lancer.
"---" Broken. As a shaft of thunder the lance traversed her chest. The moment the heart was hit, the spear'ss thousand iron throngs ruined her body from within.
"Ah -- This, spear..." Breaking. With an agonising surprise, her sealed memories were once again splattered out on to the ground.
If Fragarach is the curse that alters the flow of time, then this lance is the spell that reverses cause and effect. The moment its true name was revealed, Gáe Bolg had already pierced its enemy's heart. Thus -- even if time is reversed to the moment the spear is thrown, it is still pointless to kill the spearman With a lance that impales the adversary's heart the moment it is shown, even the death of its user will not prevent it from fulfilling its duty.
...Is this how it should have been? Perhaps the dying brain can no longer comprehend who the enemy is But this is a destruction of principles This man is the only one in the world who can counter her distorted rules with his own.
"We didn't say goodbye back then." Gathering her wits, the spearman's shape moved closer in her vision. A bit too far away. Even it she stretches her arm to its full length, she still can not reach him.
"... You left it behind. This, I'll give back to you." The lance was pulled out. With a tinkle, something hard fell to the ground. Without support, the magus's body collapsed.
Slithering in a pool of her own blood With her fading irises "--, ah" She found the diamond earring rolling on the ground. She remembered. Because she remembered, she reached out her hand and grasped it With only half a life left in her, the touch of the cold stone became her only delight.
"I remember this. I, too," Lying on the ground, she stretched out her hand. But her arms no longer moved. The talisman kept in her pocket can not be taken out.
"Ah... Wai... Wait, I... I... also have... the same..." She did not know what she was trying to say. Only that, the fact he cannot see something in her pocket made her grieve, grieve, until she no longer knew what she wanted to say all along.
The spearman walked away. Happily, again and again, the magus repeated with her melancholy eyes: "Wait, wait... I, brought... brought... brought... brought, this --" That voice ended after ten seconds The entire duel took about one minute. Lancer's prediction was heartrendingly accurate.
"Huh -- that so wasn't worth the effort..." Lancer left Bazett's cadaver and sighed deeply Using his lance as a staff to support his bloodstained body.
"--" ...No matter what, victory was decided. The only enemy left was Bazett's servant, Avenger. Without his Master, he shouldn't put up too much of a fight.
"Nice work. So, got anything left to take me on?" "I really wanna say... yes. But, look, that's gonna be a bit too hard in my condition."
Lancer's body started to fade away. ...A battle between Fragarach and Gáe Bolg is a fight to the bitter end for both of them. Both warriors received the opposing Noble Phantasm. The rules forbid Lancer to be only one left alive.
"Sorry, gotta go. Do whatever you want afterwards. After all, is all my work done here, kid?" There should be no more strings attached Lancer, mumbling about losing his face, retreated without any regrets.
"--" ... What will happen now? Bazett, who wished to revive the War of the Holy Grail, was defeated. There did not seem to be a difference at the moment, but the bondage of 'Four Days' should be released at dawn --
"How can that be. Even killing Bazett is not gonna end the War of the Holy Grail. Because as long as I'm here, she's gonna come back to life no matter how many times she dies." The shadow roared with laughter. His Master was dead, but Avenger remains unchanged.
"You are --" "Wait a sec, don't be so nervous. It's a rare pleasure to have Bazett killed. Now it's time for my long-awaited show time." "...!"
The moon was stained back Ever since when, monsters gathered about the proximity of the church.
"Lost Lost Lost --- !"
"But... why are... those things are not attacking him...?" The monsters were still as stone The glittering eyes were transfixed not on me but on the Servant. ... A will that takes delight in the defeat of others, the perverted glee was distorting itself.
"Yes Yes Defeated again This time defeated again --!"
"...Bastard. Without Master, I'm gonna become one of them too." A sound as doomed prisoners terrified of death. AAAAAAAAAHHHH, NOOOOO! That Servant was really begging for my help, then It changed into a hideous monster
"Yes Yes Yes -- !"
"Wha -- you, are..." Exactly the same. The Servant called Avenger was melting, morphing into a shape identical to the monsters --
"Looks like I've lost. But pay close attention, Emiya Shirou. This is my true shape. I'll lose countless times. I'll die countless times. As long as I'm here, the War of the Holy Grail will not end."
"You too You too You too...!"
His entire body was shivering. Avenger, shirking away from the monsters surrounding him, his body bleeding profusely, still managed to retain his sanity to cry out.
"Listen, go to the Holy Grail -- Ha, ya, aya, aaaiii, bury the hollowness. No, fill the Grail. No no. Erase all the possibilities. No, no, no, can't see, can't see, can't see anything...! Yes, come, come and kill me, no, no, don't come, if you're coming to kill me then I'll kill you...!!!!"
...The black shadow was devoured by the horde of monsters. The ceremony did not take much time. The amount of monsters lessened one by one, until a new entity is formed. All conscious lost, a gruesome creature squat on the ground.
"..." One look The creature tilted his head incredulously and shuu! Jumped like a frog into the long grass.
"..." ...I'm the only one left in the square. Bazett's body have disappeared as well. Perhaps, we have returned to the first day.
"...The Holy, Grail...?" I've heard of that before. The Holy Grail. In the War half a year ago, a girl was called by that name. ... This should be the last one of the remaining fragments. In that first day, when the dawn breaks and the night ends In the castle of winter where the girl awaits, the last path will be revealed ---

...The only thing I can say is... wow. That was really cool.
IIRC, Ten no Sakazuki is what people call "the Greater Grail" in English. The big-ass circle/ritual/cave thing. Can't confirm it right now though. arai said:

Holy Grail (Fuyuki version, greater)
The Greater Grail in the Fuyuki grail wars. Enkan Kairo. Inner World, Ten no Sakazuki. A massive circle located in the massive cavern beneath Mount Enzou. Tens of layers of seals engraved on the floor of a pot-like crater. In the center of it lies Justica von Einzbern, the core/furnace of the circle. The circuits paved across the surface of the crater are her own enlarged and expanded circuits. Those circuits, with a diameter of one kilometer, are like a miniature universe composed from one body. What manages the Servant system and is responsible for appointing Masters.
Is there a complete F/ha Chinese script around, or just some scenes?

Thank you thank you (not for the bite on the neck though... ouch...)
No I haven't found a complete Chinese HA script. This is actually found on someone's blog, among with one other HA scene.
As for the grail... Avenger used both terms in one sentence and I really don't think that he would tell Shirou to go to the 'Lesser Grail" and "fill up the Greater Grail of Justicia", so I'll keep them as the conventional 'lesser' grail.
This scene is also on YouTube. Type in 'Fate Hollow Ataraxia' and you'll eventually found it.
Added images as soon as Photobucket went back online.

Well, he means Shirou/Angra has to meet Ilya (the Lesser Grail in the 5th Heaven's Feel) to advance the story, so it could make sense if one reads it like that.
It's not too important, though, because he clarifies it in the following paragraphs. I think it's fine as it is.
Amidst it all, Shiki is smiling. The sleeves of her light blue kimono are tainted red. Kneeling down and touching the blood flowing on the ground, Shiki streaks it across her lips. The blood drips down her lips and her body trembles in ecstasy. This is the first lipstick that Shiki has ever worn.
