 Mirai Fukuin [Update: Mobius Link]
« Thread Started on Dec 14, 2008, 12:28pm »

I didn't actually manage to get the whole book, just whatever was posted in General Discussion somewhere around August, which has been sitting on my PC mostly unread. So the only parts I could only do were the manga chapters.

Aaanyway, rolling along, here's Chapter 2 first, because I personally like it better (and also because it's much more likely to have mistakes - voluntary editing, anyone? ^^;;). I actually have Chapter 1 done as well, but I'll look through that again and post it, iunno, later this week?

Enjoy!?

EDIT: Fixed a typo and mistranslation.

EDIT2: Thanks to jartsi for pointing out that I totally missed two pages. Also (again) fixed some glaring errors in the translation.

/facepalm

===========================

...The last day of the summer.

She died here.

*****

02_daylight -October, 1998-

*****

Two months ago, there were eight cases of girls killing themselves jumping off the Fujou Building.

The eight girls were not associated to one another in any way save one. None of them left a will.

She - Andou Yuuko - was one of the eight who commited suicide.

The sudden, unexplained deaths of the girls disturbed the community.

But I... only I know the true reason why Yuuko chose death.

It was -

"!

You are... Asagami Fujino..."

"That voice... Miyazuki-san, yes?"

I know about Asagami Fujino.

She's something of a celebrity.

After an accident, she was hospitalised, where she stayed until recently.

Apparently - she lost most of her sight at the time of the accident.

"Um...

Why are you...?"

"And the same to you. Why are you here?"

"I am returning to the hospital.

This is the Fujou Building, isn't it?

Then this is where Andou-san -"

"That's enough! I don't need to hear about Yuuko from someone who's not even related to the matter!"

"...I'm sorry..."

How inconsiderate.

Her eyes were pitying.

But I won't let her talk about Yuuko with that, "I understand, I know how it is" know-it-all face.

"Perhaps my words will not reach you...

But please consider them carefully..."

You...!

"Miyazuki-san?"

There's one other reason why Asagami Fujino is famous.

"Hey, is it true that you were involved in that serial murder incident seven months ago?"

"...What do you mean?"

"Ah, nothing. Well, if you know any vicious killers be sure to introduce them to me."

"Miyazuki-san,

You were...

very fond of Andou-san, weren't you?

You must have been; she was your best friend."

*****

"Hey, let's do this together."

Yuuko...

"Killing your own future and living forever,

That'd be fantastic, don't you think?"

She leapt out in order to reach eternity.

"But going alone would be scary.

Let's do this together."

'I don't need a future that contained nothing but filth'; those words got through to me.

I -

I couldn't do it, going together with her.

"I... She's left me behind..."

As I'd thought, I can't live on by myself.

*****

"I don't know the means, so I guess I'll just throw myself off right here."

Even that -

"Good evening, Miyazuki-san."

"Wha... Asagami, Fujino?

Why are you..."

"And the same to you. Why are you here, Miyazuki-san?"

"I'm..."

"...going to kill youself?

"Th, That's no concern of yours! That's right! I'm going to die! Once I say goodbye to this defiled future, I can be with Yuuko forever!"

" - I see. But you won't be able to die with just a box cutter. Even if you jump off, there is water below, so it's still only a small chance...

Shall I lend a hand?"

"Wha...

Ow!

That's..."

"Bend."

"Kya!"

What is this?

What's going on...?

"Miyazuki-san, earlier, you were talking about the serial murders seven months ago."

Eh?

"Did you know what happened to the victims?

How they were killed, how their corpses looked like they were twisted by a vise?"

It can't be...

"It cannot have been humanly possible."

No way. Those rumours... they said...

"...Have you realised yet?

That vicious killer was me."

- !

"Hyaah...!"

"Ah, that's not a good idea."

"Kyaaa!"

*****

It's no use... I can't get away...

"I regretted it very much. No matter what justification I had, it was unforgivable.

I'm only doing this because I have no choice - I have to help you.

Aaah, but...

There isn't much difference between six corpses and seven, is there...?"

"Not matter what...

Believe..."

"Just...

Just go ahead,

and kill me!"

*****

"...Hey, let's do this together.

The two of us, leaving behind this world, this future, forever."

...I see.

"That would be fantastic."

The one who was tempted was me; I was inconsiderate.

Yuuko told me off with a worried smile.

That always happened.

"Ha, you traitor.

If I have to live in this mess of a future, I'd rather just die messily."

But the one who fell was her alone.

I was left behind.

*****

"It'd be the same for me... whether I die or not..."

Yesterday, I found out what happened to the Andou. The family collapsed, shouldering enormous debts.

Yuuko and her mother, who found her body, were at an impasse regarding her future.

The one thing that lured me and my inconsiderateness into death,

was definitely the way she said she would "kill" the future.

"I say...

No matter how cruel it is,

I want you to believe that this world is beautiful."

That -

At that time, that was the last thing Yuuko ever said to me.

"Wh, Why...

Why do you...?"

"I also received those words from her.

But I never realised the meaning behind them.

I was such a fool.

I have taken so much without giving something for it.

I covered my ears from all of it, until I could no longer even see.

Once I have killed,

I realised."

...Asagami Fujino...

I wonder where her softening eyes were gazing.

What, they were looking at...

"I do not understand the pain that Andou-san felt.

I do not know if her death was her own decision, or if there was some other reason.

But those words - they were, beyond doubt, a prayer.

And... it would be good if they reached you."

Her sins, and my sins, they can never be forgiven for the rest of our lives.

But those strong, deep eyes, accepting everything until the end,

They're...

Somehow, they're just like Yuuko's.

*****

The darkness was pierced by sunlight.

It was...

...foolish and cruel, but,

"Ah..."

it was the loving prayer of the girl whose heart was always white with pain.

"A cat?"

"Uh huh. Can you take care of it for a while?"

"Why? Can't you do it?" ???

"I want to, but I have work to do. I'll be gone for a while."

"I have stuff to do too, you know..."

"That's not good. You've just gotten that injury. For now, you should rest.

You haven't gotten used to that artificial arm yet, right?"

"...It's fine."

"That kind of negligence is the most dangerous.

I think I'll be back in two days, but I'll leave a bit more cat food here.

And I already know that you're a good kitty.

...Well then, I'll leave the rest to you." :)

"Hey! I didn't say I'd...

What a pushy guy..." >:(

*****

"Good grief, why do I have to do this...

Hey, it's time to eat - ow!

...

Damn it... Touko..."

*****

"The artificial arm hurts?"

"Yeah. Can you do something about it?"

"Well, I didn't really expect this to happen.

Your body has a high degree of purity. No, we should say, a high degree of completeness.

This imitation of phantom pain is a 'rejection' against a foreign body."

"So it's not a mistaken rejection reaction?"

"Something like that can't cause this. This is a problem of the soul - a misunderstanding felt by you, Shiki."

"If you know so much about this, you can do something, right?"

"Yeah, all right -

'Hang in there.'" ;)

*****

"Geez!

...

Is it...

Waiting for Mikiya to come back...?"

*****

"Excuuuse me...

- Wait, what the? I heard that something big happened, but aren't you totally fine?"

"(I should be the one say, "what the"...)

That idiot Kokutou made a fuss. He's way too protective.

I can't tell if he's being hatefully energetic or using this as an excuse to be extremely extravagant..."

"That's too bad, not being able to see you weak and helpless.

Here, take this."

"...What's this? You eat this corner store stuff?" ???

"Hey... >:(

I brought this because Mikiya asked me to and I had no choice, so just humbly accept it and... hm?

A cat?

Shiki, you have a cat?"

"Kokutou left it here."

"But it's soo cute, no way!

Ah, that's right. I have some bread here. Wonder if it'll eat it...

Over here, have some of this... e, eh?"

"Oi, the cat won't eat something like that."

"And I did it so nicely too... :(

Somehow, this kitty... reminds me of you."

"..."

"Well, whatever. I did what I was asked, so see ya.

Oh, and if the cat's a bother I can take care of it."

"Nah, it's fine.

(I'd be worried if you do...)"

"Is that so?

I guess similar beings get along better."

"..."

*****

"Well, Kokutou will be back day after tomorrow.

I wouldn't mind being burdened one more day...

Heh."

*****

"Ah, no -

I'm really sorry.

Sh-Shiki?

I never thought it'd be a week before I could come back."

"...Damn you..."

"Ah, were you a good kitty?

Did the two of you get along a bit at least?"

"We didn't. It doesn't play by itself when you weren't around."

"Hmm, but this is a pretty willful cat, no? Maybe it was just my imagination.

I've found a foster parent for you. We'll go meet your new mother tomorrow."

"...Aren't you going to take care of it?"

"No... I would if I could, but my job is really busy, so the house will be empty."

"It wants to stay with you."

"...I see.

But it's strong. It'll forget all this in three days and be used to its new parents...

Ouch!-?" :o

"Don't...

Don't you look down on the cat!" >:(

"A-Ah...?

Sorry."

Again, if you see any mistakes/strangeness in general, let me know.

The manga or the novel?

The manga is thirty-some pages, the book is 192 pages, said Syunsuke.

The index.

^ Speaking of which, I've been sorta translating the text as well, but progress is fairly slow (and besides, I should be editing Fate/Zero). So, bump.

I'll be very pleased if you could translate the text; really looking forward to reading the conversation at Agnenerbe. So just take as long as you need to translate it, I'm sure most of us will be waiting paciently and cheering you up if you need it.

By the way, I'm editing the manga parts using your translation without having asked you for approval, so say, do you allow me to insert your translation in the affected pages? =P
Quite slow pace as well though. Going through finals right now.

A preview. Chapter 4 (or should it be 1, in this case...) is four pages long.

==========

Kara no Kyoukai
Möbius ring

There are two in my world.
One here in the past, one there in the future.
The left eye and right eye are different, gazing at the same world from different points of view.

The self seeing far away through the telescope,
and the self seeing through the rearview mirror.

Either way, the weight of the sins will not change.
I, the one who knows the result, am an irresponsible God.
Unable to change anything, simply waiting for the future.
No anticipation or hope for the future, not even a particular opinion.
A tedious day-by-day.
A tedious future.
A tedious life.

...But I'm sure; it's boring to always be first and best.
Mingling with melancholy and rolling around the bed is my daily routine.
Three days later's me will laugh at my own appearance.

There are two in my world.
As for which is the shadow of the other, I can honestly say I've even forgot how to check...

==========

/4

August 3rd, 1998. Eleven thirty-two A.M. The heat wave reached its peak.

On the riverside a short distance from the heart of the city of Fumine, there is a large department store that was established close to ten years ago.

Separated from the station entrance are shops maintaining the vast plots of land - isolated from the city centre, like a misplaced fortress.

A four-storeys high, wide, stereotypical store front.

A food court with family staples, and a shop with none of the latest electronics, not even old-fashioned electrical appliances.

Shoes, Western clothing, libertine medicines, lightbulbs, and assorted unorganised goods were arranged like cordial neighbours. A seemingly modern, balanced trading fair. While it doesn't reach their high hopes, it is the lifeline of the people around it, providing their necessities.

However, compared to that abundance of the product line, the interior of the shop has little liveliness. Before noon, there are almost no customers; the station workers, the visitors, before they realise it's already past twelve o'clock.

Summer vacation is no different. The everyday morning at the department store is shrouded by the slow passage of time.

Relaxing air from the outside fills every floor.

Even with some customers and visitors sitting by, this place still feels like it doesn't correspond with outside time. The ominous call of ambulances, and the piercing echoes of patrol car sirens fill the air.

If I want to live I have to get moving.

The fortress city-like department store, being built so securely, was not made to cope with abnormalities coming from the inside. Surely, no one has noticed the presence of the outsider.

The third floor of the multi-storey parking lot extending from the department store. That's where I was, pursued by the knife-wielding girl in a kimono, who appeared now outside the angle of view of the surveillance camera.

"...Hey. I've caught up with that mad bomber."

The girl talked into her cellphone, then opened her hand. The cellphone dropped to the concrete floor.

From the sash on her back, the girl drew a knife.

The two eyes carefully took in the surroundings.

The parking lot was quiet.

The summer sunlight casted shadows dark as night.

Something was coming up on the elevator.

The ceiling was low, and the line of sight poor, filled with columns, cars, and other obstacles.

The girl had no idea... couldn't guess that I was here twenty metres away, in the shadows of the wagon.

Between me and the girl are three explosives.

On the roof of the parked cars were metal pipes. The gunpowder inside was each packed with about five hundred corundums, each a few millimetres in diameter. Due to the concentration of gunpowder, both ends of the pipe were sealed. These are not like the firebombs from before, meant for pure destruction; these were made specifically to kill this girl.

From the previous failures, I have successfully concluded the most efficient method of caging her.

Once they explode, the corundums will travel in all directions for ten metres. There are absolutely no route of escape in the three-point trap; there will be no one-in-a-million chances. I have already made sure that the corundums can reach the target. As for damage, there will only be the girl whose bones will be ripped from her flesh, the surrounding cars which will be scrapped, and the family who will appear from the elevator in ten seconds.

The girl walked in a straight line in my direction, unable to see me.

The elevator door opened.

The child carrying bags of grocery and the happily-laughing parents walked into the parking lot.

The family had barely entered her vision when I pressed the button on the remote control.

In an instant, the unassuming, simple fuse was activated, and the gunpowder lit.

A few seconds' confusion was enough to dull the girl's movements.

One second later.

Ryougi Shiki, her body taking the full force of the 2mm corundum shrapnel, yet still retaining her human form, was, at her wit's end, instantly killed.

Let me know if there are any mistakes.

Here you go, the first manga chapter. Since this is my first time editing, I'd like some coments (like what have I done that I mustn't do again, for example).

Also, I've found some mistakes:

Quote:

Separated.

Quote:

Corundums (Word kindly pointed this out for me, I would have missed it).

Oh, and one thing, "light bulbs" is one or two words? I've never had this one clear, so I'll ask before saying you have a mistake, just in case the one mistaken is me.

Also, I've found some mistakes:

Quote:
Seperated from the station entrance are shops maintaining the vast plots of land - isolated from the city centre, like a misplaced fortress.

Separated.

Quote:
There are absolutely no route of escape in the three-point trap; there will be no one-in-a-million chances. I have already made sure that the corumdums can reach the target.

Corundums (Word kindly pointed this out for me, I would have missed it).

Oh, and one thing, "light bulbs" is one or two words? I've never had this one clear, so I'll ask before saying you have a mistake, just in case the one mistaken is me.

Ah, such wonderful Ryogi~

I suggest avoiding writing words vertically. I breaks the flow and can be a pain in the ass to read. Hyphenating works better, or if possible, alternate word choice.
